We consider ourselves very lucky and grateful to have Jamie as part of the Clementine team since March of 2020. She has been one of our most consistent and dependable animal caregivers, being there for the animals on Monday mornings to provide their needed food, water and clean housing.
Jamie found herself drawn to volunteering for us because of the current chaos in the world and the negative energy she felt around her. She says, “The only way to combat the negative energy is to surround myself with pawsitive energy and animals are my wonderful dose of an antidepressant pill.”
Jamie came to us with experience with farm animals as she has generously volunteered at several animal sanctuaries throughout the United States as well as Thailand and Columbia. Volunteering with animals is her passion.
Rusty, one of our beautiful red hens, who lives in one of our Flight Pens, is Jamie’s favorite animal on the ranch. She has a very special connection with her. Jamie says, “She snuggles and cuddles you… when SHE says its okay, kind of like a cat.”
For Jamie the best part of volunteering at the ranch is getting to know the animals and creating friendships with the other volunteers. She says it feels like going to hang out with friends every week… the human and furry kind.
Jamie’s favorite food is Vegan Mac-n-Cheese. Who doesn’t love Mac-n-Cheese?
We love learning more about what our volunteers do with their time away from the ranch, Jamie enjoys; Crosswords, Jeopardy, Thrift shopping and watching murder mystery documentaries.
We also like to learn about the funny or odd things that happen to them while they volunteer with us. When asked about her most embarrassing moment at the ranch. Jamie had an experience in one of our Flight Pens it could be considered funny but also a little scary too. She hit her head on one of the wood perches as she was walking out and knocked herself to the ground and onto her butt. She said, “I saw stars and wasn’t sure if I had a concussion, but I didn’t care because Rusty came running over to me and jumped on my lap to console me with her chicken purrs. She’s the best!” Luckily Jamie was okay.
We want to thank Jamie for sharing a little bit about herself with us and for being such an awesome animal caregiver at the ranch. Our animals depend on incredible people like her every day!
